The Board of CISU has adopted a number of Position Papers, which describe CISU's view on various key development concepts and how to define and interpret them in practice.

The Position Papers are prepared on the basis of best practice and experiences of member organisations, development projects and activities, consultations and training activities as well as the management of The Civil Society Fund. The final wording is adopted by the Board.

The papers are not static documents, but will be revised at regular intervals in line with new learnings and knowledge. Further Position Papers on other development concepts will also be introduced.

Position Paper No. 1: Sustainability in Development Projects

(December 2008)
CISU promotes a balanced view on sustainability. It is seen as an overall perspective and is assessed in relation to the specific nature, size and goals of the development effort  - so not a single aspect (eg. financial, technological or environmental sustainability alone) becomes decisive.
