Overordnede mål
To enhance and sustain the well-being of orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) in Kanungu Town Council.
Umiddelbare mål
1. By the end of the two-year project, all community members, local council leaders and Civil Society Organisations (CSO´s) in contact with the project are aware of OVC rights, human rights and equality, and actively engaged in protecting them. 2.By the end of the two years project, a total of 60 groups of OVC households in Kanungu Town Council are able to earn a consistent income to meet their basic needs of food, education, medical care and clothing among others.
Målgrupper
The primary target group in this development project are orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC´s)and their caregivers (parents, relatives or guardians) in 30 villages within Kanungu Town Council. The estimated number of direct beneficiares is 1500 in total, hence 500 children/youth (300 girls, 200 boys), 600 female caregivers and 400 male caregivers.

Mend the Broken Hearts Uganda og Støtteforeningen til selvhjælp i Uganda vil etablere et udviklingsprojekt for forældreløse og andre udsatte børn og deres forsørgere i det meget fattige Kanungu i Uganda. Projektets formål er at forøge disse børn og forsørgeres trivsel og livsvilkår gennem styrkelse af deres rettigheder, muligheder og konkrete bæredygtige indkomstskabende projekter. Tilgangen bygger på mobilisering af civilsamfundet og organisering af selvhjælpsgrupper blandt de svageste husstande med udsatte børn. Der sættes bred fokus på disse børn og deres værgers rettigheder og skabes en kultur med respekt og støtte blandt folk, organisationer og myndigheder. Husstandene udvikles gennem projekterne, der skabes og drives af selvhjælpsgrupperne selv. De bliver varigt selvforsørgende og får ressourcer til at tage sig ordentligt af børnene. Der etableres to grupper med projekter i hver af 30 landsbyer med deltagelse af i alt 1500 værger og børn.
