Overordnede mål
To create awareness and actions for change about the causes and solutions to the environmental problems which characterize the rural areas in Uganda. This includes capacity development and advocacy at all levels of the community.
Umiddelbare mål
1. The youth and community members are educated on proper environmental management The youth and the community members have gained sufficient knowledge to advocate for the actions to be taken. The youth have inspired and have achieved the support of the local leaders on environmental conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
Målgrupper
Primary Target Group: A. Youth of the age of 15-30, in the 6 project areas (11 sub-counties). Around 330 youth in the 11 sub-counties and as far as possible the representatives from the youth (TOTs) will take part in all five training sessions and will be selected by the sub-county leaders in the districts. 4-5 TOTs will be selected by JEEP and SNF in each sub-county after the first training period to function as facilitators during and after the project period. Secondary Target: 1. 35 schools in 6 districts. Students, teachers, headmasters and parents 2. CBOs and VSLA members in the project areas 3. Community members in neighboring districts.

Projektet tager udgangspunkt i miljøproblemerne i Uganda i de tre områder, Mt. Elgon, Budaka og Moroto, hvor Seniorer uden Grænser, Joint Energy and Environmental Project (JEEP) og Safe Neighbourhood Foundation (SNF) har implementeret miljøprojekter. Formålet er at styrke bevidstheden blandt de primære målgrupper, bl.a. de unge, om årsagerne til miljøproblemerne og gøre opmærksom på problemerne og deres løsninger over for ledere på lokalt niveau og alm. farmere. Træningen vil blive praktisk og fokuserer på problemer omkring vand, træfældning, energikrisen og alternative energiformer, fødevaresikkerhed og pres på jorden. Der vil blive trænet unge, som trænere, der som “facilitators” kan videreføre projektet. Udstillinger, radio og trykte materialer vil bringe projektet ud til en større målgruppe. Seminarer afholdes for lokale ledere og lokale meningsdannere. Projektet har en varighed af fire år. Der vil foregå oplysningsarbejde i Danmark om projektet (Se facebook: Rural Development Mt.
