Overordnede mål
The overall development objective of the proposed 2-year project is to increase access to water, to improve sanitation facilities and to reduce the practice of open defecation in 6 villages and surrounding pastoral areas in Garowe District, Nugaal Region of Puntland State, Somalia, by 2020.
Umiddelbare mål
The 3 immediate objectives of the project are: 1) To strengthen the capacity of Village Committees to promote inclusive planning and improved access to WASH services at village level by 2020. 2) To strengthen the capacity of relevant duty bearers in target areas to coordinate inclusive local WASH planning and implementation processes by 2020. 3) To improve hygiene and sanitation practices amongst rights holders in the target areas by 2020.
Målgrupper
The overall target groups are the inhabitants of the 6 selected villages and the population in surrounding pastoral communities. Village Committees will each have 15 members (a total of 90). 65 officials from the village, district and state level will also be directly involved. In addition, a minimum of 1 member per village based household will be targeted in the awareness/training campaign (a total of 4.075 individuals) as will members of the approx. 8.800 pastoralist households. With an average of 6 persons per household this takes the total number of indirect beneficiaries to 77.250. The project strives at ensuring the highest possible gender balance.

Dansk Folkehjælp og KAALO Aid & Development (KAALO) fra Garowe i Puntland, Somalia, har sammen udviklet projektet “Strengthening WASH Structures and Dialogue in 6 villages in Puntland, Somalia”. Projektet løber over 2 år. Formålet med projektet er at styrke lokalbefolkningen i 6 landsbyer i Puntland ved at kapacitetsopbygge landsby- og vandkomiteer, så de bliver bedre til at organisere sig, vedligeholde vandinfrastruktur og undervise de øvrige landsbyboere indenfor WASH. Samtidig vil kapaciteten hos lokale beslutningstagere også blive styrket, så de har større forståelse for og evner til at forbedre de lokale vand- og sanitetsforhold. Landsbykomitéerne og de lokale beslutningstagere vil desuden blive trænet i fortalervirksomhed med fokus på WASH, samt konfliktløsning, som er et vigtigt redskab i skrøbelige situationer.
