Resume

Kenya is currently facing a flood crisis after heavy rains that displaced about 260,000 people, killed over 100 people, and damaged schools and other infrastructure. Overflowing latrines are posing an acute health danger. In the last two months, Kenya reported 60 cholera cases, and further outbreaks are feared. CARE and two local partners are responding to the flood crisis in Dadaab and Fafi sub-counties of Garissa County. Local partners are Relief and Reconstruction Development Organization (RRDO) and Fafi Integrated Development Organization (FaIDA), which are both strongly embedded in the communities. In the six months project period, the partners will provide WASH services that are critical for preventing diseases and thus saving lives and ensure that affected families are able to stabilize and transition towards recovery. The project will include hygiene promotion targeting community members and schoolchildren, improvement of latrines to ensure safe disposal of excreta and prevent contamination of water, and water storage facilities so that affected families are able to store and preserve clean water for household use.
