Resume

Uganda currently spends very little on social protection, with the result that the vast majority of the population have limited income security. A new protocol to the African Charter, on ‘the Rights of Citizens to Social Protection and Social Security’, describes comprehensive standards for government provision of social protection. The proposed intervention will produce materials to make the Protocol operational and show how it can be used as an advocacy tool. We will carry out awareness raising and capacity development activities about the Protocol, targeting the general public, civil society organisations and government stakeholders. Activities include research, production of a policy brief, media engagements, a public launch event and workshops and meetings with key stakeholders.
