Overordnede mål

Reduce poverty among 1500 beneficiaries in 4 wards of Mutasa district and increase resilience towards global warming and change of weather pattern in 18 months.

Umiddelbare mål

1. Introduce new water management techniques. 2. Strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable communities by introduction of drought resistant crops. 3. Capacitate the Sekwi Rural Resource Centre (SRRC) and Nhaka Organic Farmers Association (NOFA) through the implementing partner NAWT. The 3 immediate objectives are ordinated at the same level.

Målgrupper

This project is targeting 250 households’ altogether 1500 persons. The participants in the program will comprise of 70% women, 10% men and 20% youth being a vulnerable group in society. Women need to be economically empowered so that they can be self-reliant regarding provision of basic necessities needed in a rural household where the majority of poor people are found. Youth who are unemployed are also beneficiaries of the project. They will be empowered to create their own employment. During the project the capacity of the resource centre SRRC will be enhanced. It will be equipped with solar panels to facilitate communication in the 21st century. SRRC shall receive a fee for all the workshops and courses and training that takes place at the centre. The board of SRRC will be trained in management and planning. NAWT the partner organisation is also part of the target group. They will be helped in their capacity to do project management, accounting and development work.

The overall objective of the intervention is to reduce poverty for 250 households with a total of 1,500 people and to increase their resilience towards global warming and change of weather pattern. Immediate objectives: • Introduce new water management techniques. • Strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable communities by introduction of drought resistant crops. • Capacitate the Sekwi Rural Resource Centre (SRRC) and Nhaka Organic Farmers Association (NOFA) through the implementing partner Nhaka Afrikan Worldview Trust. The objectives will be reached through a series of training activities in the following fields: Water harvesting and management, crop management, basic management skills, harvesting and post-harvest management. Farmer Family Learning Groups are introduced and Money Savings Clubs promoted. Training of trainers is the method applied in training activities. SRRC is capacitated through training of the board in management and planning and with installation of solar power.
