Overall targets

To reduce rural poverty by promoting alternative livelihoods through savings and investment groups among 400 landless farmers – including 40-60 Persons With Disability (PWDs) - in Yilo Municipal and Upper Manya Krobo district by 2020 (SDG 1and 2).

Immediate targets

1).To facilitate the formation of 40 SIGs in the Yilo Municipal and Upper Manya Krobo districts to save and invest into sustainable alternative livelihoods through practical training to reduce poverty by 20% by 2020 (SDG 1 and 2) and improve beneficiaries health through the NHIS by 2020 (SDG 3) (formation of groups, savings mobilisation, training in alternative livelihoods, investment and health training). 2). To build the organisational capacity of KROBODAN Ghanas board, staff, volunteers, leadership of SIGs and PWDs, FBOs and KFA (KROBO Farmers Association) to effectively organise, manage, implement, monitor and evaluate the project as designed by 2020. 3). To improve landless farmers household incomes by 20% through advocacy on land tenure, low government investment, government as a duty bearer, weak district assembly approach to agriculture and formal organization for landless farmers by 2020.

Target groups

400 landless farmers including PWDs organised in 40 SIGs constitute the primary target group, and the number reflects the carrying capacity of the project. After the first year of existence, the SIGs could, however, grow and change some of their members. Most are members of the Krobo ethnic group. The concept of landless farmers is defined as vulnerable rural people (women and men including PWDs), whose major activity is peasant farming, but who do not have land of their own. Normally a landless farmer is defined as someone who is farming on 1-2 acres of land, which does not belong to him/her.
