Resume

This project has the overall objective of ending illegal abortions and increasing access to safe abortion among young women aged 16-24 years living in Livingstone Zambia, and ultimately contribute towards reducing maternal deaths attributed to unsafe abortions. Use of illegal abortion is high in Zambia for two main reasons, firstly, because of low levels of community awareness how to access legal abortion in public health facilities and secondly, because abortion is frowned upon by large sections of the Zambian society owing to deep rooted traditional and religious values. Owing to the high number of reported incidents of young women dying as a result of illegal and unsafe abortion, this project shall be implemented in Livingstone with a particular focus at: firstly, sensitizing young on the dangers of abortions; secondly, creating awareness on existing legal framework on abortion; and thirdly, advocating for the for the review of the existing legal framework on abortion in Zambia.
