Overall targets

Our project’s overall objective is: To facilitate that Community Radio and its rights to public airwaves is recognized, validated and maximized as a major and indispensable public resource especially for the most disadvantaged communities, towards the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals or Global agenda 2030.

Immediate targets

1. Stated as a Strategic delivery objective, we want to facilitate that by 30th June 2020, disadvantaged communities served by the 23 Community Radio stations under the Ghana Community Radio Network (GCRN) in Ghana, and especially the least voiced/most marginalized including women and youths among them, are aware and can with good knowledge, contribute to the achievement of the UN SDGs agenda 2030, through exercising their Right to Communicate in relation to the SDGs. 2. Stated as a Capacity-building objective, we want to facilitate that by 30th June 2020, twenty-three (23) Community Radio stations in the 10 Regions of Ghana will have deepened their capacity to; - to facilitate and grow GCRN’s participatory methodology intertwining on-air and off-air communication to implement the grounding of objective 1 (Strategic Delivery objective). - Their organizational capacity as a community broadcasting resource including their internal inclusiveness, governance, and sustainability, so as to achieve the capacity to sustainably implement objectives 1 and 3. 3. Stated as an Advocacy and Knowledge-sharing objective, we want to facilitate that by 30th June 2020, the combined synergy of the work of the Community Radio Stations and especially their most disadvantaged communities in relation to the SDGs builds on, exemplifies, and asserts an evidence-based advocacy case study/best practice for a more transparent, equitable and enabling regulatory environment for genuine Community Radios in their role to mobilize marginalized communities, so that no one is left behind in the Global SDGs agenda 2030.

Target groups

'- The 23 Community Radio Stations that would directly implement the Strategic Delivery component span a multiplicity of ethnic groups. These have a listenership of at least 20,000 people each. Thus targeting about 460,000 community people within the project catchment. - 2 persons who are the staff of the 23 CRs above (one woman and one man for affirmative action). Thus a total of 46 radio staff - Up to 4 field assistants (youths & other categories) from each of the 23 CRs that will provide voluntary support along the way. Thus 92 field assistants in total. - Several CSOs that fall under the Coalition for Transparency of the Airwaves (CoTA) - The Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly Chief Executives (MMDCEs) involved - The Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly Members (MMDCAs) involved
