Resume

The recent heavy monsoon rainfall in August 2017 resulted in the widespread flooding in 35 districts of Nepal. It was reported that around 1.7 million people were affected, destroying 65,000 houses and displacing 460,000 people. An initial assessment done by WCN at our working site has shown that in Chitwan and Nawalparasi districts around 300 households of DFE's and WCN's CISU Program have been badly affected. All stakeholders were deprived of basic food amenities and education materials in both Chitwan and Nawalparasi. Many crops and Non-timber forest products plantations planted by our women group members from our NCF funded project were also heavily damaged. The two nurseries which are being maintained by the women group in Chitwan and Nawalparasi were also flooded, damaging around 40 % of the saplings. This intervention will mainly focus on meeting the immediate nutrition and food requirements, provision/maintenance of better drinking water, hygiene facilities and provision of education materials and education on disaster risk reducation and management. It will also focus on repairing the latrines of 7 inundated schools which have been damaged by the floods.
