Resume

The purpose of the intervention is to increase the livelihood of poor subsistence farmers in Lupane by reinforcing the role of Phumakanye Primary School (PPS) in community development. This involves establishing a School Farm at PPS based on Conservation Agriculture(CA). The farm will be used as a demonstration farm for Farmer Family Learning Groups (FFLG). The farm produce will be used partly to supplement a lunch meal for the learners and staff and partly for market sale. The intervention will furthermore establish/support a cash management system handling the school farm’s finances. Meeting/ communication facilities will be arranged to give subsistance Phumakanye farmers enhanced advocacy. The activities will train the farmer families in FFLG methods, Village Savings and Loan (VSLA) and CA, and train the different groups at the school to ensure farmers’ possibilities to get loans for small business development, good farm practice and healthy meals.
