Humanitarian needs are extremely high due to the impacts of four consecutive seasons of poor rainfall, an anticipated fifth season of below-average, exceptionally high food prices and disease outbreaks (primarily acute watery diarrhoea/cholera and measles). Approximately 7.8 million people are affected, with over 1.1 million displaced. Food security in Somalia has reached catastrophic levels About 2.2 million people are expected to be in Emergency (IPC Phase 4) and at least 300,000 people in Catastrophe (IPC Phase 5). Famine is projected among rural communities in Baidoa and Buurhakaba districts in Bay region and displaced people (IDPs) in Baidoa where malnutrition and mortality levels are already very high. Other areas facing an increased risk of famine are among others, IDP settlements in Gaalkacyo and parts of Galmudug
