The South-Western monsoons brought unprecedented amount of water (600 mm) on the western slopes of the central hills of Sri Lanka during 25-26 May, 2017. Among the affected districts, Ratnapura district is one of the worst hit areas where over 55,000 families are said to be affected by floods and landslides. LEADS (a partner of Assist) is already engaged in disaster response measures in the area. The proposed relief project reaches 500 families and 200 school children in Kuruwita and Pelmadulla DS in Ratnapura. The families will receive a useful kitchen utensil pack (NFI). The school children will get a school stationery pack that includes socks and shoes. This is expected to assist the children to resume their education. The project duration is 2 month and is expected to commence by the first week of July. The relief team is careful not to affect communities adversely
