Overall targets

To improve the health of the people and strengthen the civil society to take part in a democratic and peaceful development in Karamoja with respect to traditional cultural values.

Immediate targets

Objective 1: Improve family hygiene, nutrition, prevention and treatment of the most frequent diseases through an improved collaboration between the indigenous and modern health care system Objective 2: Improve family wellbeing by decreasing family violence, sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancies. Objective 3 Improve collaboration between the trained groups and organizations working in the area of health, democracy and a peaceful development in Karamoja

Target groups

The primary target groups are approximately 150 IHPs, IBAs, and Health Care Workers, around 150 women and 180 schoolgirls. These people will pass their knowledge on to the secondary group. The secondary target groups are the inhabitants – especially women and children - of the 35 villages included in this project with numbering a total of approx. 15.000 people. The population in the karimojong community will, in the long run, benefit from improved health deriving from improved relations between the health sectors, the added benefit of this, in terms of peace and

Projektets formål er dels at øge befolknings sundhed via uddannelse og træning af traditionelle behandlere og fødselshjælpere samt skabe samarbejde med det officielle sundhedsvæsen samt at etablere og uddanne kvinde grupper i distriktet Nakapiripirit i Karamoja regionen, som er underforsynet på alle områder. Det er essentielt at bakke befolkningens muligheder op for at deltage i styrkelse af civilsamfundet. KIMHECOP har hidtil arbejdet sammen med Dialogos om lignende aktiviteter baseret i andre distrikter i Karamojaregionen med fine resultater og vist sig at være en betydningsfuld aktør, specielt på grund af, at organisationen er stiftet og drives af Karimojong selv, som den eneste NGO i området. Dette giver stor legitimitet hos befolkningen og stor velvilje og anerkendelse hos myndighederne.
