Resume

The overall purpose is that Gambian youth participates as active citizens in building their own future and The Gambia’s future – and thus combatting irregular emigration from The Gambia. The intervention addresses the root causes for this migration and promote the youth’s and their communities’ participation in changing these on a personal and societal level. The Media Academy for Journalism and Communication (MAJaC) is partnering with a civil society coalition of 16 CSOs who in different ways are engaged in preventing youth from taking the backway to Europe. In this project, MAJaC plays 3 roles: 1) As a secretariat and resource center for the coalition; 2) as a provider of life-skills and 3) a provider of media-related work skills, so the youth can embark successfully on the Gambian labour market rather than embarking on the dangerous journeys to Europe as economic migrants.
