Resume

The forest-adjacent, cocoa-dependent communities in Ghana's Wassa Amenfi West District are vulnerable to climate change (CC) because it is a threat to their cocoa harvest. This is exacerbated by new Deforestation Regulations because cocoa exporting companies require them to document a deforestation free production, which is very difficult. This project will promote resilience through Village Savings and Loans Associations with inherent sub-groups, focusing on implementing participatory and community-designed CC adaptive measures in 3 areas: Agroforestry, Forest Monitoring, and Income Generating Activities and Household Health. Technical training will empower the communities to implement community-driven CC adaptation initiatives, while advocating to local authorities for support using their own collected data. The partnership between Rikolto and PbN is strengthened trough shared knowledge on cocoa communities and through a strategy for supporting the target group in the future.
