Overall targets

The purpose of this project is to lessen violence in all its forms against Cameroon women in general and poor Cameroon women specifically through direct counselling, legal representation and advocacy campaigns.

Immediate targets

1. Through advocacy a vote has been made in the National Assembly of Cameroun for the abolishment or change of the gender biased civil code, articles 1421/1428, and there is a decrease of gender biased ruling in courts through an increased use of CEDAW in Cameroonian courts 2. Counselling and representation in court has been provided for poor and marginalized women and a minimum of 1700 (project fund 1000, other funding 700) women have been counselled, educated or assisted directly within topics related to women's rights. 3. WCIC has gained sustainability and achieved lasting effects of their organisation and activities beyond the project period (exit strategy).

Target groups

The primary target groups of this project are (see quantity in indicators): • All married women in Cameroon • Cameroon women subjected to violence in general and poor women in particular The secondary target groups of this project are: • Members of the National Assembly in Cameroun • Legal representatives (in particular judges and lawyers) from all provinces in Cameroun • NGOs and CSOs within the women’s rights area from all provinces in Cameroun • Civil and public authorities in the 5th arrondissement of Douala • Volunteers, staff and board of WCIC

Resume

Projektet er sidste fase ud af fire i alt. Fokus er på at fortsætte advocacy arbejdet rettet mod at få ophævet en specifik kønsdiskrimnerende lovgivning i parlamentet men samtidig oplære dommere og advokater i brugen af CEDAW og Maputo protokollen mhbp. på en de facto ophævelse. Kerneaktiviteter i form af rådgivning, informationsaktivieter og gratis retssager for fattige kvinder fortsættes. Bæredygtighed er tænkt ind i alle aktiviteter. Som led i exitstrategien investeres yderligere i fundraising og i at afklare organisatoriske forhold, således der kan opnås varig effekt af projektet efter afslutning.
