Resume

To safeguard the Amazon rainforest and adjacent forest ecosystems, it is essential to empower CSOs to protect and main-tain the integrity of indigenous territories and protected forest areas by establishing community platforms for civil society forest control and surveillance. Documenting environmental infringements in vast and thinly populated areas of tropical forests is in this context crucial, and the use of modern monitoring technologies plays an important role. The South Amer-ican Forest Conservation Alliance (SAFCA) has thus decided to embark on a journey to strengthen the territorial integrity and rights of rural and indigenous communities and civil society groups by promoting rights-based approaches to con-servation. The Tech Workshop for Environmental Defenders is one of several strategic initiatives aimed at empowering civils society actors to defend the Amazon rainforest.
