Overall targets

Development objective: To increase the wellbeing and resilience of young people living in Kampala’s vulnerable ghetto communities through urban sustainability initiatives.

Immediate targets

Specific objective 1) Young people and city authorities have increased their awareness and understanding of climate change in K-zone communities, inspiring behaviour change towards a more sustainable city; Specific objective 2) Young people have improved their livelihood and actively contribute towards environmental restoration in vulnerable urban communities in Kampala; Specific objective 3) Kampala City Authority have strengthened their implementation of policies and budget prioritization addressing the negative impacts of the climate crisis in Kampala.

Target groups

Primary target group: Young people who participate directly in trainings and meetings (256 female; 385 male); Young people who participate in community events and outreach (7326 female; 8954 male). Secondary target group: Government officials from KCCA (75 female; 112 male); Community members in seven target communities (2560 female; 3850 male).

Resume

The overall aim of this project is to increase the wellbeing and resilience among young people in the vulnerable urban informal settlement communities of Kampala through Youth-led climate adaptation. The project aims to create sustainable social change by: I) engaging the Kampala city authorities and the young people in the informal communities through community climate awareness caravans and capacity development initiatives and thereby raising their awareness and understanding of climate change inspiring behavioral change; ii) by creating multi-purpose green spaces and green entrepreneurship initiatives the project aims to improve livelihood conditions for young people and actively contribute towards environmental restoration in the informal communities in Kampala; iii) by engaging in youth-led advocacy on policies and budget prioritization addressing the negative impacts of the climate crisis in Kampala, the project aims to strengthen the climate action of Kampala City Authority.
