East Africa free of preventable NCDs!

Immediate targets

Immediate objective 1 Well-functioning NCD Alliance in all countries in the East African Community and a sustainable network of these NCD Alliances. They have built a capacity so they are attractive for their member associations as the leading advocate for political action on NCDs and respected as the legitimate representative for patients and people concerned about NCDs by governments, Members of Parliament, East African Community, donors and other relevant stakeholders. Immediate objective 2 All NCD Alliances have been advocating successfully towards their governments/parliaments for development of costed national NCD plans (plans and budget), implementation of the 2015 Sustainable Development Agenda here under integration of NCDs in their development plans/aid plans and strategies, influencing the East African Community’s NCD Plan and the outcome document of the next UN NCD review.

Target groups

Target Group About 25 representatives from NCD Alliances in East Africa 3 to 4 representatives from DNCDA 2 representatives from NCD Alliance global 5 to 10 representatives from involved universities 10 representatives from other relevant NGOs (Red Cross, farming, environment, educations etc.) 6 members of Parliament, 6 representatives from Minitries of Health,6 WHO country offices 5 to 10 representatives from private business Equal representation of men and woman as an aim.

Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), kræft, diabetes, hjerte- og lungesygdomme er verdens største dræber og skyld i 60% af dødsfald (35 millioner) årligt, 80% i de fattigste lande. De er en alvorlig trussel mod udviklingen. De kan forebygges igennem en indsats mod risikofaktorerne tobak, alkohol, fejlernæring og manglende motion. NCD Alliancer fra Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda og Burundi har slået sig sammen i et fællesskab med den Danske og den globale NCD Alliance og Aarhus, Yale, Southern California og Aga Khan Kenya universiteterne for at styrke deres kapacitet til politisk interessevaretagelse og for at gennemføre fælles politiske indsatser. Initiativet indebærer 4 kapacitets workshops, et multistakeholdermøde for regeringer, NGOer, virksomheder m.fl., monitorering af landenes indsatser og politikudvikling. Den politiske indsats er global, regional og national i både syd og nord.
