Resume

The main objective of the intervention is to secure access to clean water for the affected families. At the moment they are able to fetch water in buckets from large tanks placed at emergency centres, but the affected communities urgently need to have re-established water points and access to improved sanitation/access to hand washing points, in order to avoid outbreaks of typhus or cholera (very common in Sierra Leone). Access to hand washing points allows for better sanitation, but also for flood/mudslide victims to maintain self-dignity even in such a crisis, as access to basic WASH services will be re-established fast. In 6 to 9 weeks, the proposed WASH structures are expected to have been built. For immediate relief UNICEF, Gov and all partners will provide rainwater collection equipment to households. This will give enough time for boreholes to be drilled in the 30-90 days time table.
