Resume

The Khovgol Dairy Project II is an extension of an earlier intervention where a dairy cooperative Sarlagiin Saikhan Khishig (Blessed by the Yak), comprised of nomadic herders from Northern Mongolia, was created. Also, a dairy plant was constructed, and the coop now has 2 seasons of experience working together. This extension will solidify their business model and dairy brand, improve the dairy production (quality and efficiency), as well as take initial steps towards community-based tourism for diversified income for the nomads. Furthermore, this intervention will start talks about fodder production and pasture management for future climate and economical resilience. As a cross cutting thread, the cooperative will grow stronger as a cooperative and sustainable business, and gender sensitivity will be key. A strong focus will be on strengthening the organization and cooperation among the herders, and increase the membership of the coop.
