Overall targets

To improve opportunities for inclusion of deaf people in Tanzanian society

Immediate targets

Immediate objective 1: Improved provision of qualified sign language interpreters and improved provision of sign language training for deaf in Tanzania. ?Immediate objective 2: CHAVITA and TASLI have improved their organisational capacities, including strengthened capacities to advocate for policies and public support favouring inclusion of the deaf.?

Target groups

Directly this project will affect: - 5 board members of CHAVITA - 5 board members of TASLI - 6 trainers-of-trainers upgraded, formerly trained under the TASLI-CICED partnership project 2014-2015 (sign language interpretation) - 8 CHAVITA members to become trainers in sign language (SL - trainers) - 10 TASLI members – sign language interpreters – - Min. 80 deaf and hearing people up country in the age of 16-60 years receiving basic lessons in sign language - 2-3 representatives from each of the sister-organizations in Zanzibar, i.e. CHAVIZA and ZASLI will be invited to participate in meetings and trainings according to their interest and capacity to participate - App. 10 representatives from the ministries relevant in the context of this intervention, being Ministry of Education, Prime Minister's Office responsible for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled and local government officials. - TV and other media of relevance through sensitization campaigns for inclusion of the deaf Indirectly: - Family members of deaf people participating in the sign language sessions - Friends and colleagues of deaf people participating in sign language sessions - Colleagues of the trained sign language interpreters - Deaf users/clients of the trained sign language interpreters Because of the the relatively small selection of people working with sign language this project will focus on finding the best qualified rather than focusing on gender.

Resume

Projektet er et trebenet samarbejde ml. CICED og de to hovedaktører indenfor døve og tegnsprogstolkning i Tanzania; døveforeningen CHAVITA og tegnsprogstolkeforeningen TASLI. Igennem 2 år vil organisationerne få styrket deres kapacitet og samarbejde, for at stå stærkere i deres fælles mål; inklusion af døve i samfundet. Derudover vil organisationernes resourcer og kompetencer blive styrket, ved en videre opkvalificering af TASLIs tolke og give CHAVITA et taskforce af døve undervisere, der gennem et år vil udbrede kendskabet til tegnsprog. Projektet vil sideløbende nedsætte et udvalg der har til opgave at kortlægge en ramme for en evt. nationalt anerkendt tegnsprogstolkeuddannelse, samt søsætte en awareness kampagne om døve, tegnsprog og tolkning.
