Resume

Spor Media and Nafsi Africa have cooperated for a decade using arts to strengthen understanding between youth in Denmark and Kenya and to improve life opportunities for youth in Nairobi’s slums. During corona, we started to include on-line communication with Danish students. This revealed the potential of using smartphones and social media in the efforts to strengthen the democratic self-esteem of Kenyan youth and their opportunities to influence society and their own life situation. Tangaza 2 builds on these experiences and will train 125 young smart phone reporters (2/3 women) in five big slum areas of Nairobi. Young people from selected CBOs in the slums will participate in the training and thereby strengthen their organizations, and existing community media will provide training opportunities. Furthermore, the young participants will use SoMe to advocate for much-needed change and they will become role models for other youth in their communities.
