Overall targets

The overall objective of the intervention is to stop / reduce the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) among the Maasai population of Engaresero, Lake Natron, Tanzania by enabling the community, Girls, Mothers, traditional leaders and FGM practitioners to understand the effects of FGM and prevent FGM and other forms of Gender Based Violence subjected to girls and women.

Target groups

Target Groups 1. District Government Officials - 40 pax. - These are district government employees working in the in different departments in the district. 2. Government Leaders, Village Leaders and Key persons from Villages – 40 pax.- Village leaders are 25 elected leaders from the community forming village government council, government leaders includes those employed by the government to work under the village and ward level i.e. Wards / Village executives officers. Key persons include people respected and with influence in the community e.g. religious leaders. 3. Women and male traditional Leaders who are very influential in the Maasai community – 40 pax. – These are from the Engaresero community. 4. 60 youth from 4 sub-villages - these will be chosen by the village assembly by abiding with criteria’s set by BAWAKIMO. These will form youth clubs / TOTs/ animators who will be involved in FGM and GBV campaigns in the village. 5. FGM practitioners (Ngaribas) and Primary Health Care givers 40 pax. Ngaribas are FGM practitioners from the community, Primary health care givers are those selected and trained and are living within the community. 6. Primary and Secondary school teachers 50 pax. Selected teachers from all schools found in Engaresero. 7. Maasai Women and Girls - > 1,000 pax.
