Resume

The purpose of the project is to enable local people and organisations on islands in the Sundarbans to understand how climate change affects their local communities, especially poor and vulnerable groups, over the next decades, what options they have to adapt to climate change, and in particular to implement necessary climate adaptation measures. The project partners will map and implement solutions together with women groups. The adaptations will come about through pilot interventions and advocacy and cooperation with authorities on 1) management of groundwater in areas where it is limited, 2) reinforcement of embankments with nature-based as well as conventional engineering solutions and 3) participant-oriented maintenance of drainage channels and rivers. The project will work with all active forces, but with a particular focus on women in self-help groups and the school children who have to live with the consequences of climate change.
