Target groups

Primary target groups Comunespacio’s staff and volunteers (10 people): Comunespacio has a broad experience working locally with different partners, though this is their first cooperation with an international NGO. The intervention will strengthen Comunespacio as an association, and also the individual staff and volunteer members, at an administrational level and in regards to advocacy. 6 to 12 year-old children (35 children): Comunespacio has worked intensely with the children during the last 6 years. This group represents Mateo Salado’s present and future. We will work with them continuously in weekends inside the archaeological site and in the neighbourhood. We want to strengthen their critical thinking and autonomy, and to enable them to build future projects together. 14 to 18 year old teenagers (35 teenagers): This group is more prone to get into systemic criminal patterns (drug dealing, alcohol, stealing, etc.). With this group we will work two times a week in the neighbourhood school “Instituto Escolar Republica de Alemania”, where Comunespacio is cooperating with the teachers. Catalytic effect: The intervention creates a space where children and young people communicate their live stories and concerns through audiovisual language. By developing, using and disseminating their own narratives they catalyze action competence for social transformation. Pocket cinema turns out to be an effective and playful tool to transmit their realities and make them visible to other young people. Secondary target groups a. Elderly people: The children and young people involved, will work with ‘micro reporting’ in order to describe the local memories of elderly people. This method creates a cultural continuum, increase the value of the legacy of former generations, work in an intergenerational way and finally is part of the creation of a grassroots museum. b. Personnel from the archaeological site and from the Ministry of Culture: The employees will support with the announcement and provide the facilities for the realisation of the workshops and coordination meetings with the families. The festival will create new bonds among the employees at the archaeological site and the neighbours. c. Grassroot Organizations: Comunespacio is cooperating with local grassroots organizations, but they have shown to be weak at a participatory and organizational level. The idea is to revitalise these organizations by involving them in the cultural activities in the neighbourhood. The organizations count: El Maizal, El Zorzalito, Otro Mundo, VCD - Videos Creados con Dibujos, 5 minutos 5, La clínica de los sueños, TAFA - Talleres Ambulantes de Formación Audiovisual, Grupo Chaski.
