Overall targets

The overall objective is to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation among young individuals in Northern Ghana to help them sustain their own future which will contribute to poverty alleviation and economic growth.

Immediate targets

Project goal 1: As of 1st of April 2021, a network of 300 young entrepreneurs/potential entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana has been formed to inspire and share experiences with each other and other young people with a dream of starting their own business. Project goal 2: As of 1st of April 2021, 300 young entrepreneurs/potential entrepreneurs are aware of potential difficulties for starting their own business and have strengthened their competences in entrepreneurship. Project goal 3: As of 1st of April 2021, the network of 300 young entrepreneurs/potential entrepreneurs have created a dialogue with local and national government institutions about improving the environment for entrepreneurship in Northern Ghana.

Target groups

The primary target group is 300 young entrepreneurs/potential entrepreneurs living in Northern Ghana of which at least 40% are female. The meaning of “potential entrepreneurs” is someone with an interest in founding a start-up company or a person that already has experience in this subject, but not necessarily someone who has already succeeded. The members could be connected to HOPin Academy already, but it is also planned to look outside the existing networks. It is expected that most of the members will have finished an education like senior secondary school but it is not a criterion – on the contradictory HOPin Academy will be searching for individuals with other potentials; individual’s with an extraordinary drive, who has a talent for presenting a case or otherwise. The secondary target group is the two responsible organizations, FANT DK and HOPin Academy when getting new experience and knowledge in a new field of development work. As a part of the secondary target group are also potential collaborators and local and national duty bearers as well as all future entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana which can become members of the network and benefit from previous advocacy work done by the network.

Resume

The core significance of this intervention is to strengthen the network of young entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana for them to help each other and form a network that will not only benefit the 300 starting members but all future entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana. The aim of the network is to work at a political level when advocating for better conditions for doing entrepreneurship in Northern Ghana and seek to make significant structural changes, that should benefit far more individuals than just the 300 members of the network. The network will engage at different levels and with different stakeholders; including political duty bearers, financial institutions, private companies, education institutions and so.
