Overall targets

To eradicate violations of children’s rights in Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu, India.

Immediate targets

1) Villagers in 10 villages are actively addressing violations of children’s rights at Panchayat and taluk level. 2) Legal duty bearers responsible for children’s rights have improved knowledge on their legal obligations and have been motivated to enforce the existing laws 3) The civil society in Villupuram district has been capacitated and equipped to take up (advocacy) issues concerning children’s rights violations in the district

Target groups

The primary target group is all children in Villupuram district between 5-21 years old, with particular focus on children from rural, poor, marginalized and oppressed communities particularly vulnerable to child rights violations. These children often come from families belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes . The secondary target group is various stakeholders at Village, Taluk and District level.

Projektet, Standing Together for Children’s Rights, er en videreudvikling af projektet, Children, know your rights!. Projektet tager udgangspunkt i eksisterende indisk lovgivning om børns rettigheder, med fokus på at sikre at lovgivningen også implementeres og overholdes i praksis. Dette vil ske gennem tre hovedindsatser: 1) organisering af målgruppen på landsby- og taluk niveau; 2) træning af og advocacy rettet mod lovpligtige og moralske duty bearers i deres forpligtelser for at opretholde og overholde loven; og 3) mobilisering af civilsamfundet i distriktet. Projektet implementeres i Villupuram distrikt i delstaten Tamil Nadu i det sydlige Indien.
